Tanvi The Great Movie Review:
A Heartfelt Story of
Autism & Ambition
with Out standing Performances
Introduction
Anupam Kher, one of Bollywood’s most versatile
actors, returns to the director’s chair after 23 years with Tanvi the
Great. His last directorial venture, Om Jai Jagadish (2002),
was a box-office disaster, but this time, he brings a deeply personal story
inspired by his real-life niece, Tanvi, who is autistic.
Does Tanvi The Great succeed in
delivering an emotional and motivational story? Let’s dive into this spoiler-free
review to find out!
Plot Summary: A Girl’s Unbreakable Spirit
The film revolves around Tanvi (Shubhangi
Dutt), a 21-year-old autistic girl living with her mother, Vidya (Pallavi
Joshi), an autism expert. When Vidya has to travel to the U.S. for work, she
leaves Tanvi with her grandfather, Colonel Pratap Raina (Anupam Kher), a
strict ex-army officer.
During her stay, Tanvi discovers her late father’s
(Captain Samar Raina, played by Karan Tacker) dream—to hoist the Indian flag at
Siachen. Determined to fulfill his wish, Tanvi embarks on an emotional and
inspiring journey, overcoming societal barriers and her own challenges.
Acting: The Heart and Soul of the Film
Shubhangi Dutt – A Stellar Debut
Shubhangi, a student of Anupam Kher’s acting
school, delivers a powerhouse performance. She effortlessly portrays
Tanvi’s innocence, struggles, and determination, making her character feel
authentic. But in few scenes, she over did it and that is acceptable as this is her
first movie.
Anupam Kher – The Emotional Anchor
As Colonel Pratap Raina, Kher brings depth and
warmth. His chemistry with Shubhangi is heartwarming, making their bond one of
the film’s highlights.
Supporting Cast – Strong but Underutilized
- Pallavi Joshi as
Vidya is convincing.
- Arvind Swamy and Jackie
Shroff add value but have limited screen time.
- Boman Irani and Karan
Tacker perform well but deserved more impactful roles.
Direction: Ambitious but Flawed
Anupam Kher’s direction is sincere, but it could
have been better, as the story is strong, with experienced director this movie
could have been more engaging compact. The film suffers from pacing issues
and few dragged and unrealistic scenes. Few songs were forced in it. While the
emotional scenes hit hard, it brings tear to your eyes.
Weaknesses in Execution
- VFX Fails to Impress –
Some scenes, like a truck falling into a gorge, look poorly executed.
- Unnecessary Songs –
The music, composed by M.M. Keeravani, is melodious but slows down the
narrative.
- Overstretched Runtime –
At 2 hours 39 minutes, tighter editing could have improved the
flow.
Music: A Mixed Bag
The soundtrack has soulful tracks like Oh
Mere Man Mohana and Sena Ki Jai, but some lyrics feel out
of place. The background score, however, complements the emotional tone.

Yes, If You Like:
- Inspirational true stories
- Strong performances

No, If

Final Verdict: 3.5/5 ⭐
