War 2 Movie Review
War 2 Movie Review: A Glossy But Hollow Action Spectacle – Hrithik Shines, NTR Disappoints
Introduction
The much-awaited War 2 has finally
hit theaters, promising high-octane action, glamorous locations, and the star
power of Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR. But does it live up to the hype?
Unfortunately, despite its grand visuals and big-budget spectacle, War
2 falls flat with a weak storyline, unconvincing twists, and lack of
emotional depth.
If you're a fan of the YRF Spy Universe (which
includes War, Pathaan, and Tiger), you
might be disappointed. While the previous films balanced star power with
gripping narratives, War 2 feels like a soulless, formulaic
rehash.
Let’s dive deeper into what works and what doesn’t
in this ambitious but flawed action thriller.
War 2 Plot Summary: A Recycled Spy Story
The film follows Kabir (Hrithik Roshan), a rogue
RAW agent who is now labeled a traitor after assassinating his mentor, RAW
chief Luther (Ashutosh Rana). To hunt him down, RAW sends Vikram (Jr NTR), a
skilled but mysterious agent.
On paper, this sounds like a thrilling
cat-and-mouse chase. But in execution, the story drags, filled with clichés and
predictable twists. The first half is all about stylish entries, exotic
locations, and slow-motion action—while the actual plot barely moves forward.
By the time the big "reveal" happens,
you’re already exhausted from the endless, repetitive action sequences.
Performances: Hrithik Carries the Film, NTR Falters
Hrithik Roshan – The Only Saving Grace
Hrithik, as always, delivers a magnetic
performance. His screen presence, charisma, and action sequences are top-notch.
However, even he can’t salvage the weak script. His character lacks depth, and
his emotional scenes with Kiara Advani fall flat due to zero chemistry.
Jr NTR – A Wasted Opportunity
NTR’s Bollywood debut is a major letdown. His entry
scene is one of the weakest in recent memory—no impact, poor VFX, and
cringe-worthy dialogue delivery. His performance feels forced, and his dance
sequences (usually his strength) are forgettable.
Kiara Advani – Underutilized
Kiara plays Wing Commander Kavya Luther, but her
role is poorly written. She has little to do except look glamorous in a few
scenes.
Supporting Cast – Wasted Potential
Ashutosh Rana and Anil Kapoor (who replaces Rana as
RAW chief) have minimal screen time. Varun Dhawan and Sonii Razdan appear in
blink-and-miss roles, adding nothing to the story.
Direction & Writing: Style Over Substance
Ayan Mukerji (Brahmāstra) directs War
2, and it’s clear he prioritized visuals over storytelling. The film looks
stunning—shot across Germany, Spain, Japan, and Switzerland—but these locations
don’t enhance the plot. Instead, they feel like expensive backdrops for
mindless action.
The screenplay (by Aditya Chopra, Abbas Tyrewala,
and Sridhar Raghavan) is the biggest letdown. The story is a rehash of
old YRF Spy Universe tropes:
- Rogue agent (seen
in Pathaan, Tiger)
- Betrayal and redemption (same
as War 1)
- Over-the-top action (but
with zero tension)
The dialogues are cringe-worthy, and the emotional
moments lack impact.
Action & VFX: More Pain Than Pleasure
The action sequences are technically well-shot
but exhausting. The film relies too much on:
- Slow-motion shots (every
fight scene has at least five)
- Loud background music (as
if volume = intensity)
- Unrealistic stunts (characters
survive impossible falls, bullets, and explosions)
The VFX ranges from decent to downright cheap—some
scenes look like they were edited on a mobile app.
Music & Editing: Forgettable
Pritam’s music is average—none of the songs stay
with you. The background score (by Balahari Bros) works in patches but fails to
elevate the film.
The editing is another weak point. At 2 hours
53 minutes, War 2 feels unnecessarily long. Many scenes drag,
and the pacing is inconsistent.
Final Verdict: Skip or Watch?
The Good:
· Hrithik Roshan’s screen presence
· Visually stunning locations
· A few
well-choreographed action scenes
The Bad:
· Weak, recycled storyline
· Jr NTR’s
disappointing debut
· Overuse of slow-motion and loud music
· No emotional depth or memorable moments
Rating: 3/5 – A Glossy But Empty Spectacle
Should You Watch It?
If you’re a die-hard Hrithik fan or just want to see some high-budget action,
you might enjoy War 2 in parts. But if you expect a gripping
spy thriller with a solid plot, this isn’t it.
